Easy control and management of platforms are critical to efficient development and effective deployment of open-standards systems. SpiderWare®M³ platform management reduces development cycle time and lowers OpEx by enhancing the usability of leading-edge AdvancedTCA® (ATCA) and MicroTCA® platforms.
SpiderWareM³ platform management software is designed for Emerson’s ATCA and MicroTCA systems. The software package provides an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) compliant platform and blade management solution that greatly enhances the user’s ability to Manage, Monitor and Maintain (M³) ATCA and MicroTCA platforms.
SpiderWareM³ acquires information such as voltage, fan speed, temperature, and power supply status, through each blade’s I2C-based IPMI interface.
SpiderWareM³ programmatic interfaces ease the integration of ATCA and MicroTCA platforms into higher-order network management systems. The software incorporates XML over TCP/IP and Service Availability™ Forum (SA Forum™) compliant HPI standard interfaces, enabling developers to rapidly create solutions that leverage the functionality of SpiderWareM³.
With an intuitive graphical user interface, SpiderWareM³ can greatly enhance the out-of-box experience of both the xTCA developer and the craftsperson deploying systems. A self install wizard automates the set-up on a Microsoft® Windows® PC. SpiderWareM³ discovers all Emerson platforms on a connected network, inventories all installed blades, and represents each system with an interactive graphic. Clicking on a specific blade will give the user critical information on that module.
SpiderWareM³ detects blade, sensor and field replaceable unit (FRU) data from local and remote management nodes, with a graphical view of each platform in a node, enabling identification and recording of each platform configuration and its available payload. SpiderWareM³ presents users with descriptions of faults and prioritizes outstanding alarms. Multiple ATCA and MicroTCA platforms can be managed from the same remote PC.
SpiderWareM³ is implemented with a client-server architecture and consists of four main components:
- M³Server is the core server function that monitors the system via the IPMI interface. The M³Server can run locally on a blade in the xTCA platform or on a remote server.
- M³Daemon can be implemented on individual modules to give the M³Server the ability to control applications and monitor the module. The M³Daemon communicates with the M³Server using XML over TCP/IP.
- M³Portal is a customizable Java-based client providing full control of the chassis from any platform.
- M³Journal is a reporting and logging function that records data monitored by SpiderWareM³ and provides a snap shot of events that have occurred. Data can be searched using MySQL®.
