Designing Data Centers for Uptime and Energy GoalsThe Uptime Institute, a New York City-based data center think tank and professional service organization, has awarded Tier III certifications to six Dimension Data onecloud™ facilities — the first data centers in India to receive this internationally recognized certification. Emerson Network Power India is Dimension Data’s design-build partner for all six sites. Tier III certification signifies that Dimension Data’s onecloud™ data centers are designed to run 24/7, even in the event of maintenance or hardware replacement.
Dimension Data, a member of the NTT group entered into a 10-year strategic alliance with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), India’s leading telecommunications company to leverage the power of cloud computing. Dimension Data’s onecloud™ managed and hosted services will be offered through its six data centers in six Indian cities (Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Ludhiana), covering 66,000 square feet.
Emerson Network Power India is providing a complete design-and-build solution for the data centers. Emerson will deploy its Aperture Data Center Infrastructure Management suite in the data centers to deliver its uptime service levels of 99.982 percent. Energy consumption is reduced through design innovation, such as using Emerson’s precision cooling technologies Liebert Smart Aisle and Liebert PeX with digital scroll compressor-based Liebert DX system, rather than air-cooled chillers. Additionally, the data centers will be based on Emerson Network Power’s “
” strategy for optimizing energy efficiency.
Dimension Data required that the project have a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of no more than 1.6, meaning that the data center consumes 60 percent more energy than necessary to power its IT equipment. A measure under 2.0 is considered very good. Emerson Network Power’s design and equipment enable the data centers to achieve a PUE of 1.5.
In addition to delivering key solutions and technologies for the data centers, Emerson Network Power will provide management of the mission-critical physical infrastructure for seven years and ensure a minimum uptime availability of 99.982 percent..
This project has been unique for Emerson Network Power India in several ways. It is one of the largest contracts in India to date for data center design and build.
