Xi’an, CHINA (May 7, 2014) -- Emerson (NYSE: EMR) today held the 2014 Joint Software Process Improvement Network (“SPIN”) conference in Xi’an, which was attended by Randall Ledford, chief technology officer of Emerson, Sara Yang Bosco, president of Emerson Asia Pacific, Steve Little, director of Emerson Innovation Center and Human-Centered Design, and over 100 guests. Now on its 15th year as an important platform for improving software process automation, Emerson SPIN has been driving the gradual improvement of Emerson software process. This conference is the first time that this technology exchange was held outside the US, demonstrating the importance of Asia Pacific in the company’s operations, especially the China market.

In his speech focusing on user experience, Randall Ledford discussed the prospect of cloud computing application, and the possible applications of human-centered design in Emerson products. In addition, he stated the future development of Emerson technology, how it will continue to focus on technical innovation and process improvement, to realize seamless integration of automation systems and enterprise-class solutions.
Meanwhile, Sara Yang Bosco shared the company’s growth in the Asia Pacific market. She stated that Emerson has achieved the perfect transformation from a technology follower to an industry leader with 30 years of market experience in China. Despite new opportunities and challenges, Emerson will have leadership in the market, and secure its sustainable competitiveness in sales networks, to ensure long-term performance excellence, and adapt to the diversified market.
Focusing on the theme of improving innovation capacity, participants shared their own experience which includes the process and development of software innovation centers, establishment of quality centers, and utilization of process improvement to enhance product competitiveness. In addition, the participants shared and discussed the current development of intellectual property rights protection in China.
Emerson Technical Day event
During the SPIN conference, Emerson also invited the meeting participants to attend the Emerson Technical Day. The event provides a platform for engineers of different business units to share innovative technologies, design inspiration, and project experiences. Through one theme of engineering management and 11 keynote speeches on technologies, Emerson eResource (Xi’an), as one of Emerson’s engineering centers in China, demonstrated its technical level in software and hardware technology design and engineering development management architecture. Ledford praised the project achievements of the Xi’an engineering center, and put forward higher requirements on innovation capacity, number of patents, project execution, and expertise team, etc.
Campus Visit to Xi'an University of Technology
During the SPIN conference, Ledford and Bosco also visited the Xi’an University of Technology. There, Ledford delivered a keynote speech, sharing the company overview, Emerson’s leading technologies and applications, and the analysis on future technology development direction. Nearly 400 teachers and students attended the seminar, showing strong interest in Emerson’s brand promise of committing to continually integrating and driving technologies and engineering, and creating competitive solutions for customers. Rowena Saquin, general manager of Emerson eResource (Xi’an) Co., Ltd., and Joyce Guan, director for human resources of Emerson China, also attended the event.
Then, Emerson representatives met with Liu Ding, president of Xi’an University of Technology, and other school leaders, to discuss the current and future cooperation programs between Emerson and the university. Ledford noted that Emerson is willing to strengthen cooperation with China universities including Xi’an University of Technology on talent education, technology development, and introducing innovation, etc., and to establish business partnership.
After the meeting, both parties held the ribbon-cutting and unveiling ceremony for the digital plant joint laboratory center, co-established by Emerson Process Management and Xi’an University of Technology. Ledford shared, “Through the joint development of this digital plant laboratory center, Emerson will not only help college students improve their knowledge, understanding, and practices of industry-leading technologies and solutions, but also help increase their competitiveness in future career development. ”
