HONG KONG ( April 25, 2013 ) – Emerson (NYSE:EMR) announced today that the company has pledged to donate RMB 500,000 in cash from the Emerson China Charitable Program for the earthquake relief efforts following the earthquake that struck Sichuan province on April 20, 2013.
The Emerson Network Power China business unit is providing equipment and engineers in the devastated areas to help telecommunications operators with their disaster recovery work. And Emerson business units and employees all around Greater China are making donations towards the earthquake relief effort.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the earthquake in Yaan, Sichuan province,” said Sara Yang Bosco, president of Emerson Asia Pacific. “In this time of tragedy when so many have lost lives, loved ones and homes, on behalf of all Emerson employees, I extend our deepest condolence to all the victims and their families."
“Emerson feels strongly that it is our corporate responsibility to support the communities in which we conduct business, and we are pleased to be able to make this donation and supply equipment and personnel to the relief effort.”
Emerson was fortunate and suffered no casualties or damage at its facilities in China, including the two manufacturing facilities in Sichuan province, Fisher Jeon (Chengdu) and Emerson Network Power (Mianyang).
“We are also relieved to hear that all the students, teachers, and the Qingquan Primary School in An County, Mianyang City of Sichuan, are all safe,” said Sara Yang Bosco. Emerson sponsored the reconstruction of the new Qingquan school teaching complex after it was damaged by the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008. The reconstruction was completed in 2009.
Emerson has also participated in a number of disaster relief efforts in the past, including donations and assistance to the snow stricken areas of China, support for the fight against SARS, the tsunami disaster relief, donations to the earthquake areas of Qinghai and Sichuan provinces and Project Hope in China.
